The Computer Systems group at Chalmers conducts research on high-performance and low-power computing, including the design and analysis of 1) efficient architectures for mainstream down to embedded platforms, 2) systems-level software to exploit interesting hardware platforms, and 3) verifiable tools to enable more efficient, accurate design space exploration.

Chalmers is a partner in the HiPEAC European Network of Excellence.

The European ERA (Embedded Reconfigurable Architectures) project studies tradeoffs among reconfigurability, performance, and power within the context of heterogeneous, multi-core systems. Chalmers efforts address the balance between performance and power consumption (at all levels), and reconfigurable memory hierarchy design, in particular. We are recruiting for one PhD position.

Blaise Pascal University is opening the second year of its Master of Physics of Nanostructures to scientifically confirmed foreign students.

Hasso-Plattner-Institute (HPI) is a privately financed institute affiliated with the University of Potsdam. The Institute`s founder and benefactor Professor Hasso Plattner, who is also co-founder and chairman of the supervisory board of SAP AG, has created an opportunity for students to experience a unique education in IT systems engineering in a professional research environment with a strong practice orientation.

We are expanding our research school and are currently seeking:

  • 8 Ph.D. students (monthly stipends 1400/1500/1600 Euro)
  • and 2 Postdocs (monthly stipend 1800 Euro)

The Department of Energy and Environment conducts superior research and education in energy and sustainable development, at the global scale down to the industrial, building, and product level. Our focus is on experimental and theoretical energy technology research, as well as development, use, and evaluation of methods and tools for analysis of technology systems. In total, 150 individuals work in the department’s six divisions.

The doctoral position is in the Physical Resource Theory division. Physical Resource Theory encompasses theories, models, and methods to describe the metabolism of energy and materials in social and natural systems, in physical and economics terms. For instance, we develop models to characterize how current and future use of energy and materials can develop toward a reduced environmental impact.

The Pöyry Engineering Scholarship, Research, University of Aberdeen, UK
Pöyry Energy is a major provider of front end and specialist consultancy services to the Oil & Gas industry in Europe, the Asia Pacific Region and the Middle East.

The scholarship is open to full time students commencing third year of any of the undergraduate degree programmes listed below in September 2010:

  • MEng Chemical Engineering (H810)
  • MEng Mechanical and Electrical Engineering with Energy Studies (H3H2)
  • MEng Mechanical Engineering with Control (H3HP)

The UT Scholarship is awarded by the Foundation University of Twente Scholarship Programme of the University of Twente. The UT Scholarship is meant for international students who show excellence, both academically as well as socially. The UT Scholarship is awarded for one year of study and is extended for a second year if study results are sufficient. Please note that you can only be nominated for the UT Scholarship after you have been (provisionally) accepted by the educational programme of your choice.

Students enrolled in the two-year programme will study in two different countries of their choice, spending one year in each and offering the opportunity to acquire 60 European Credit Transfer System units (ECTS) per year. Students are trained for technical or scientific positions in academic or industrial environment specialised in optics or using optics. PhD studies are a natural extension of the Course.

Mobility scheme: each student spends the first year at one of the five sites and the second year at one of the other four sites.

The language of instruction is English. Students are offered the possibility to learn the local language as part of the programme. Courses are taught by research staff members. The student population is multinational with a professor/student ratio of about 2.
