The aim of the Fyssen Foundation is to “encourage all forms of scientific inquiry into cognitive mechanisms, including thought and reasoning, which underlie animal and human behavior; their biological and cultural bases, and phylogenetic and ontogenetic development”.

The University of Exeter is offering twenty awards of £1,050 each for students beginning the MSc Climate Change and Risk Management at our Cornwall Campus in October 2009. The awards will be allocated according to merit, based on undergraduate degree result.

The MSc Climate Change and Risk Management is the first Masters programme in the UK that combines an understanding of risk with climate change, providing you with the skills demanded across a range of sectors, and in turn, improving your employment prospects. The programme is closely informed by expertise in the business community, from national and international NGOs, and in the world-leading climate modelling and prediction capability of the UK Met Office’s Hadley Centre in Exeter.

Applications are invited for 2 three-year, fulltime postgraduate research studentships in the School of Health and Social Care leading to a PhD. Candidates will have a background in social science and/or the health and social care professions (nursing, midwifery, public health, or social work). The topics are open and we would be happy to consider how to develop your ideas in the context of our strengths in social science applied to health and social care, particularly in relation to patients’ experiences and outcomes in acute care, models and methods for promoting behaviour change, child protection, learning disability and fragile families. The division of communications systems (www.commsys.isy.liu.se) preforms research and education in the general area of digital and wireless communications. Current projects deal with the design and optimization of wireless networks, and digital signal processing for communications receivers. We work with applied problems as well as with more mathematical/fundamental questions.
