The Program in Linguistics at Tulane University is pleased to announce the establishment of a new Ph.D. in Linguistics and invites applications for three four-year fellowships for the academic year beginning in August 2010.

The Program has particular strengths in Mesoamerican indigenous languages, African languages such as Yoruba and Swahili, East and Southeast Asian languages, Louisiana French, Spanish, pidgins and creoles, sociolinguistic variation, language death and revitalization, language acquisition, bilingual education, philosophy of language, neurolinguistics, embodied cognition, and robotics.

With various forms of biometric technologies becoming available, there is a growing need for scientists who are able to assess the merits of these technologies when applied to forensics. The Marie Curie Initial Training Network Bayesian Biometrics for Forensics (BBfor2) will provide a training infrastructure that will educate Early Stage Researchers in the core biometric technologies of speaker, face and fingerprint recognition, as well as the forensic aspects of these technologies. In this context two PhD students will conduct research at the University of Twente in the area of face recognition in the forensic domain.

The main objective of the Interuniversity Programme Master of Science in Food Technology (IUPFOOD) is to provide students with comprehensive training in the field of food technology, food science and food engineering, with special emphasis on the technology of the production of specific foodstuffs for developing countries and on tropical crops postharvest and preservation technology. It is expected that participants returning to their home countries will be able to efficiently appraise and solve problems related to food technology, food science and food engineering.

In the first year of the MSc Programme (60 credits) in depth knowledge in food science, engineering and food engineering is obtained, in order to achieve a common knowledge base between students with different backgrounds. The first year is common to all students. The courses of the first semester are organized at UGent, while the courses of the second semester are taught at K.U.Leuven.

The European Doctorate in Law and Economics (EDLE) is a joint international doctoral programme of three European universities with outstanding expertise in the field of Law and Economics:

The European Doctorate in Law and Economics offers the unique opportunity to study Law and Economics on a phd-level in three different countries. Research topics of the EDLE are chosen within the general theme of ‘Tensions between efficiency and other goals of general interest’. The programme prepares both, economists and lawyers, for an academic career in a research field of growing importance.

Applications are invited for a number of PhD scholarships at the Department of Business and Economics, to be filled as soon as possible. The place of work will be in Odense.

In collaboration with colleagues in the cognitive and social sciences as well psychology we are working on new approaches to the analysis of, potentially huge, network data. We are particularly interested in network structures that result from communication and interaction on the Web 2.0 (social networks, discussion boards, collaborative tagging sites, wikis, etc.).
