Scholarships for Undergraduate, Postgraduate, & Postdoctoral
Brunel is pleased to announce the expansion of its research scholarship scheme for 2009 to fully fund up to 30 PhD studentships across the full range of academic disciplines.
The prestigious Isambard Scholarships will be awarded to Home/EU students who demonstrate the potential for research excellence. Successful applicants will join a thriving research community, with Brunel’s recent success in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise confirming its international research standing.
The awards are funded in part by the Vice Chancellor’s Research Strategy Fund and in part by the Brunel Scholarship Fund, which relies upon charitable donations. The aim of the scheme is to attract excellent candidates to pursue their research at Brunel.
How to apply
Applicants should first apply for a PhD place by completing an online application form. Once the application has been submitted, complete the Isambard Scholarship form and return it by email or post to arrive no later than 19 June 2009.
Those already holding an offer to commence PhD studies in October 2009 can apply by completing the Isambard Scholarship form and returning it by email or post to arrive no later than 19 June 2009.
Email and postal addresses for submission are shown on the form.
Subject areas
Scholarships are open to candidates for any three-year full-time research programme leading to the award of a PhD, in any of the disciplines offered by Brunel University.
Potential applicants are encouraged to look at the PhD opportunities available within the individual Schools and Specialist Research Institutes.
Procedure and results
Awards will be made on the basis of academic excellence and potential for future research excellence. Initial judgments of potential will be made within Schools and Research Institutes, then shortlisted candidates from across all disciplines will be considered by the Isambard Research Scholarship Panel. Applicants will be informed of the panel’s decision by 14 August 2009 and will normally be expected to commence their studies in October 2009.
